In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit”, and in chapter one and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon adds what to do if they say, “we shall find all precious substance” where we read,
We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
The verse begins, “We shall find all precious substance, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “we shall find” or “we, the sinners and Solomon's son, will attain, secure, acquire, encounter and detect” “all precious substance” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the valuable, prized, weighty, rare and splendid wealth, riches and sufficiency. Solomon shared how “sinners” might tell his son that they would discover every kind of valuable riches.
The verse continues, “... we shall fill our houses with spoil:” Solomon added the words, “we shall fill our houses” or “we, the sinners and Solomon's son, will consecrate, make abundant, accomplish and furnish our, the sinners and Solomon's son's, dwelling places, abodes, shelters and habitations” “with spoil” which means “by the use of plunder, booty and prey”. Solomon said “sinners” might tell his son that he and they would furnish their homes with plunder and booty.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the sinners might seduce his son into join them because they could richly gain from all the valuable treasures they would accumulate. We can imagine the draw that increased valuables might have to Solomon's son, and as “wealth and money” actually do, it can be a mirage for satisfaction. God wants us to have a personal and valuable relationship with Him, and He provided His Son Jesus who died upon the cross for the sins of all mankind to make this possible. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to resist the invitation of the sinful when they tempt us with valuables and other “wealth” that we may gain.
Next time Solomon tells what to do if they say, “ cast in your lot among us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
