Binding Kings with Chains - Psalms 149:8

In Psalms one hundred and forty nine the Psalmist said, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people”, and in chapter one hundred and forty nine and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “to bind their kings with chains” where we read,

To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

The verse begins, “To bind their kings with chains, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “to bind their kings” or “to tie, imprison, harness and take prisoner the heathen people's, royal rulers and leaders” “with chains” which means “by the use of fetters, firebrands and flaming arrows”. The Psalmist said the people who have Jehovah God's “praises” in their mouths and “two-edged swords” in their hands would execute judgment upon the pagan people and imprison their royal rulers by the use of firebrands or fetters.

The verse goes on to say, “... and their nobles with fetters of iron;” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and their nobles” or “and their, the heathen people's honorable, glorious, rich and honored ones “with fetters of iron” which means “by the use of bonds or braids made with harsh and strong iron ore ”. The Psalmist said the “people who have Jehovah God's “praises” in their mouths and “two-edged swords” in their hands” would also “bind” the honored and glorious ones who were among the pagan people.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist knew the people who trusted and believed in Jehovah God would be used by Him to “harness” royal rulers and people of honor and glory. Although they used the idea of “chains” and “fetters of iron” to capture their foes, God is able to use all types of means to pour out His judgment upon people who refuse and reject Him. God sent His only begotten Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use us in His Kingdom according to His Divine purpose and plan for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says “to execute upon them the judgment written”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
