Regarding the Prayer of the Destitute - Psalms 102:17

In Psalms one hundred and two the Psalmist said, “When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “He will regard the prayer of the destitute” where we read,

He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

The verse begins, He will regard the prayer of the destitute, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “he will regard” or “He, Jehovah God, shall turn toward, approach and respect” “the prayer” which means “the intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn” “of the destitute” or “belonging to the stripped, naked and poor”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would pay attention to the intercession and supplication of people who are stripped, indigent and poor.

The verse continues,... and not despise their prayer. The Psalmist added the words, “and not despise” or “and in no way or manner hold in contempt, disdain or regard as worthless “their prayer” which means “the destitute's intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would in no way regard their intercessions and supplications with contempt and as worthless.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God would not only “appear in his glory” when “Zion” was established, but He would also pay attention to the orations and intercessions of the people there. God loves “Jerusalem” and the people with in it, and He is continually able to pay attention to the orations of them. God loves everybody, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins, errors and wrongs of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be attentive to our prayers when we call out to Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “this shall be written for the generation to come”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
