In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist shared how the people in the sailing vessels upon the tempestuous sea, “cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twenty-nine of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “makes the storm a calm” where we read,
He makes the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
The verse begins, “He makes the storm a calm, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “he makes the storm” or “He, Jehovah God, raises, becomes powerful against and comes on the scene in opposition to the tempest or whirlwind” “a calm” which means “a whisper, quiet and silent”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God causes the tempestuous whirlwind to become quiet and silent.
The verse continues, “... so that the waves thereof are still.” The Psalmist added the words, “so that the waves thereof” which means “so the rising and falling water crests” “are still” or “exist as silent, showing inactivity and hushed”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God also causes the raging “waves” to be inactive and silent.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God has power over the winds and waves. He is Creator God, and He is able to subdue anything within it at any time He desires. This same powerful God wants to have a personal relationship with us, and when we yield our lives to Him through His Son Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause stillness to be upon the stormy places within our lives. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him, we receive a relationship with this great and powerful Almighty God who is able to handle any situation we encounter.
Next time the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “are glad because they be quiet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
