The Wrath of the LORD Kindled - Psalms 106:40

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty of Psalms the Psalmist shared how, “the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people” where we read,

Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people,

insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

The verse begins, Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “therefore was the wrath” or “then, wherefore and on this account the anger which wrinkles the nostrils or nose on the face” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “kindled against his people” or “was hot, furious, burning and incensed in opposition to his, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female”. The Psalmist shared how the anger of Jehovah God was burning hot in opposition to the people of Israel because they worshiped false gods and idols by sacrificing their children to them.

The verse continues,... insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. The Psalmist added the words, “insomuch that he abhorred” or “and as a result, consideration and view that he, Jehovah God, detested, loathed and regarded as an abomination” “his own inheritance” which means “his, Jehovah God's, own personal possession heritage, portion and share”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God was so angry at His own people Israel that He detested them even while they were His portion and possession.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist shared Jehovah God's response to the idolatry of the people of Israel. They forsook Him and His ways and began to worship the “idols” and false gods of Canaan. They sacrificed their children to these gods, and Jehovah God was angry at their wicked behavior. God loves people, and His desire is is to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and not pour out His “wrath” because we only align with Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “gave them into the hand of the heathen”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
