My Downsitting and Uprising - Psalms 139:2

In Psalms one hundred and thirty nine David said, “O LORD, you have searched me, and known me, and in chapter one hundred and thirty nine and verse two of Psalms David said, you know my downsitting and my uprisingwhere we read,

You know my downsitting and my uprising, you understand my thought afar off.

The verse begins, “You know my downsitting and my uprising, ... David began with the words, “you know” or “you, Jehovah God, perceive, understand, have knowledge of, discern and recognized” “my downsitting” which means “my, Davids', remaining, sitting, abiding and setting in place” “and my uprising” or “and my, David's, rising up, standing and being established”. David continued to share how Jehovah God knew him when he remained in the same place and when he a rose up from there.

The verse continues, “... you understand my thought afar off. David added the words, “you understand my thought” or “you, Jehovah God, discern, consider, perceive and discern my, David's, purpose and aim” “afar off” which means “at a distance and remotely”. David said Jehovah God was aware of his purpose and aim from a distance.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how David knew God was aware of every time he sat down or was established within a place, and every time he stood or abode somewhere. God knew David's plans and was well aware of His intentions for his life. God knows us as well. He knew we needed a “Savior” because our sin has separated us from a relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to trust Him every time we sit down and every time we rise up.

Next time David says, you compass my path and my lying down, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Searched and Known - Psalms 139:1

Psalms one hundred and thirty nine begins with the phrase, [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]] which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent overseer, superintendent, or chief choir director”, “A Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” or belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty nine and verse one of Psalms David said, “O LORD, you have searched me, and known mewhere we read,

O LORD, you have searched me, and known me.

The verse begins, “O LORD, you have searched me, ... David began with the words, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “you have searched me” which means “you, Jehovah God, have investigated, explored and examined me, David”. David shared how Jehovah God investigated and examined Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... and known me. David continued with the words, “and known” or “and perceived, discriminated, distinguished and acknowledged” “me” which refers to “David”. David shared how Jehovah God also discriminated and acknowledged him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David knew that Jehovah God examined him, and He perceived and acknowledged him as well. God knows everyone, and nothing is hidden from Him. He examines us, not because He does not know us, He does, but we need to be aware of our sins that separate us from Him. This is the reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continue to examine us to reveal what He already knows about us.

Next time David says, you know my downsitting and my uprising, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

The LORD Will Perfect My Concerns - Psalms 138:8

In Psalms one hundred and thirty eight David said to Jehovah God, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me: you shall stretch forth your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty eight and verse eight of Psalms David said, “the LORD will perfect that which concerns me” where we read,

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me:

your mercy, O LORD, endures for ever: forsake not the works of your own hands.

The verse begins, “The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: David began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “will perfect” which means “shall complete, bring to an end and perform” “that which concerns me” or “the thing that interest and makes me, David, anxious”. David shared how Jehovah God would work out, complete and bring to an end the plans and interests that he had for his life.

The verse continues, “your mercy, O LORD, endures for ever: forsake not the works of your own hands. David added the words, “your mercy” or “your, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “endures for ever” or “remains and lasts for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, perpetually and unto perpetuity”: “forsake not the works” which means “do not become relaxed, sunken down, disheartened and idle concerning the acts and deeds” “of your own hands” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, own personal hands of authority, power and might”. David shared how the goodness, kindness and faithfulness of Jehovah God continues eternally, and therefore David desired that He not be disheartened and idle with the acts and deeds made with His mighty and powerful hands.

When we consider the David's words in this verse, we see how he knew Jehovah God would complete and finish the things that made him anxious. He knew God's goodness, kindness and faithfulness would endure for all eternity, and David could appeal to Him not to abandon the mighty and powerful acts and deeds performed with His hands of authority. God wants us to know Him in an intimate way, and when we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we can believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we surrender, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to know He will help us and never abandon the works of His powerful hands.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “O LORD, you have searched me, and known me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Revived in the Midst of Trouble - Psalms 138:7

In Psalms one hundred and thirty eight David said, “All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth. Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD. Though the LORD be high, yet has he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knows afar off”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty eight and verse seven of Psalms David said, “though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me” where we read,

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me:

you shall stretch forth your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me.

The verse begins, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me: David began with the words, “though I walk” or “yes, surely and indeed if and in case I, David, amble about, proceed, move and live” “in the midst of trouble” which means “within the middle of straits, distress and vexation”, “you will revive me” or “you, Jehovah God, shall sustain, make alive, prosper and restore me, David”. David said even if he were to make his way in life in the middle of distress and vexation, Jehovah God would sustain and prosper him.

The verse goes on to say, “you shall stretch forth your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me. David continued with the words, “you shall stretch forth your hand” or “you, Jehovah God, will extend, direct and loose your, Jehovah God's, hand of authority, power and might” “against the wrath” which means “in opposition and resistance to the anger that wrinkles the nostrils and nose” “of my enemies” or “belonging to my, David's, hating foes and adversaries”, “and your right hand” which means “and your, Jehovah God's, right hand of power, might, authority and ability shall” “save me” or “recover, deliver and rescue me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God to extend His powerful hand in opposition to His hating foes and adversaries, and the result would be his deliverance and rescue from them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David depended upon His relationship with Jehovah God to come to his aid when He was in dire straits, and He knew God would extend His powerful hand to rescue him from people who hated him. God wants to have this type of relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this would be possible. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us aid in our distresses and protection against people who hate us and Him.

Next time David says, the LORD will perfect that which concerns me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

God's Respect Unto the Lowly - Psalms 138:6

In Psalms one hundred and thirty eight David said, “All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth. Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty eight and verse six of Psalms David said the LORD has, “respect unto the lowly”where we read,

Though the LORD be high, yet has he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knows afar off.

The verse begins, “though the LORD be high, yet has he respect unto the lowly: David began with the words, “though the LORD be high” or “yes, indeed and surely Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God exists as raised up, uplifted, lofty and exalted”, “yet he has respect” which means “still and even so he, Jehovah God, perceives, considers, has vision toward and gives observation” “unto the lowly” or “to people who are low, base, depressed and humble”. David considered how Jehovah God is lofty and exalted, and even so He regards people who are humiliated and depressed.

The verse continues, “but the proud he knows afar off. David added the words, “but the proud” or “however, moreover, nevertheless and notwithstanding people who are exalted, haughty, arrogant and exceedingly elevated” “he knows afar off” which means “he, Jehovah God, perceives, sees, discriminates, distinguishes and recognizes from a distant place and remotely”. David said Jehovah God perceives and sees people who are lofty and exalted from a distant place.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David recognized the exalted position of Jehovah God, and that being so, He observes people who are humble. He also distances Himself from people who are haughty and lofty. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and in doing so, He humbled Himself to relate to all of us. (See Philippians 2:8) When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and ask Jesus to come into our hearts , He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and observe our humility as we prostrate ourselves before Him.

Next time David says, “though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Singing in the Ways of the LORD - Psalms 138:5

In Psalms one hundred and thirty eight David said, “All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty eight and verse five of Psalms David said, “they shall sing in the ways of the LORD” where we read,

Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

The verse begins, “Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: David began with the words, “yes, they shall sing” or “even so and indeed, they, the royal rulers of the world, will use their voices to make music” “in the ways” which means “within the journeys, manners, roads and paths” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David emphasized how the royal rulers of the world would make music with their voices in accordance with Jehovah God's manners and paths.

The verse goes on to say, “for great is the glory of the LORD. David continued with the words, “for great” or “because, since and on account that intense, important, noble and mighty” “is the glory” which means “exists the honor, splendor, abundance, riches and dignity” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David declared the importance and nobility of the honor and dignity that belongs to Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David continued to share how the royal rulers and leaders in the world would give honor and praise to the manners and paths of Jehovah God because His honor and splendor exists as important and mighty. God wants all people to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among the royal leaders who shall make music with their voices unto the “glory” of Jehovah God.

Next time David shares how the LORD has, “respect unto the lowly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
