I Cried unto the LORD Again - Psalms 142:5

In Psalms one hundred and forty two David said, “I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul”, and in chapter one hundred and forty two and verse five of Psalms David, “cried unto the LORD again where we read,

I cried unto you, O LORD: I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

The verse begins, I cried unto you, O LORD: David began with the words, “I cried unto you” or “I, David, called out, summoned and announced publicly to you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David repeated his calling out to Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, “I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.” David continued with the words, “I said” or “I, David, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “you are my refuge” which means “you, Jehovah God, exist as my, David's, shelter from rain, storm or danger” “and my portion” or “and my, David's, share, part, territory and award” “in the land of the living” which means “within the country, territory, district, region and world belonging to people who are alive, fresh, flowing and active”. David told Jehovah God that He was his shelter and award within the territory and world in which people who are active and alive live.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we discover how David proclaimed to Jehovah God that He was his “shelter” and his “award” while he lived in the world. Many people seek other things that are temporary for their “refuge” and they seek “awards” in the world other than God. Nothing and no one satisfies like a personal relationship with God. God wants to have an intimate relationship with all of us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make that possible. Now all that is required is that we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and ask Him to come into our lives and we shall be saved. Our sins will be forgiven, we will be granted everlasting life and we shall gain Him as our “refuge and portion” all the days of our lives.

Next time David says to Jehovah God, attend unto my cry, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Looking on My Right Hand - Psalms 142:4

In Psalms one hundred and forty two David said to Jehovah God, “When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me”, and in chapter one hundred and forty two and verse four of Psalms David said, I looked on my right hand” where we read,

I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me:

refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

The verse begins, I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: David began with the words, “I looked on my right hand or “I, David, regarded, paid attention to, had vision toward and considered my, David's, right hand of authority, power and might”, “and beheld” which means “and saw, observed, looked upon and considered”, “but there was no man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover there existed not one person whether male or female” “that would know me” which means “who regarded, observed, paid attention to or noticed me, David”. David shared how he considered his “right hand” of power, might and authority and looked, however there was not one who regarded and paid attention to him.

The verse continues, “refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.” David added the words, “refuge failed me” or “retreat, escape and fleeing made me, David, to perish, vanish, go astray and be destroyed”; “no man cared” which means “not one person whether male or female inquired of, resorted to, consulted about and sought” “for my soul” or “on behalf of my, David's, heart, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and passions”. David said fleeing and retreating only caused him to vanish and perish, and not one person consulted him concerning his heart, mind and will.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how David felt abandoned and alone as he was in the cave and on the run from king Saul. (See 1 Samuel 23:11-20) Running from his troubles only troubled David and made him feel unobserved, and all the time he felt that no one “cared” for his “soul”, God was there. People didn't, but God did. God knows when we have difficulties and troubles, and He knows when we feel abandoned and without anyone to care. In those times, we should be reminded that He loves us and proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who shall accompany us regardless of what we experience or how lonely we feel.

Next time David repeats the phrase, I cried unto the LORD, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

When My Spirit was Overwhelmed - Psalms 142:3

In Psalms one hundred and forty two David speaking of Jehovah God said, “I poured out my complaint before him; I showed before him my trouble”, and in chapter one hundred and forty two and verse three of Psalms David shared what happened, When my spirit was overwhelmed within me” where we read,

When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path.

In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.

The verse begins, When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path. David began with the words, “when my spirit” or “at the time and moment my, David's, breath, mind, animation, vivacity, vigor and temper” “was overwhelmed within me” which means “grew weak, feeble, faint and languished inside of me, David”“then you knew my path” or “at that time you, Jehovah God, were aware of, perceived, recognized and acknowledged my, David's, traveled way, track and place”. David shared how Jehovah God perceived and understood the trodden way of his journey at the time David's vigor and vivacity was feeble and faint.

The verse goes on to say, “In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.” David continued with the words, “in the way” or “within the path, road and way of travel and living” “wherein I walked” which means “in the place and location I, David, trod, ambled, proceeded, traversed and lead way” “have they privily laid a snare for me” or “have they, the wicked foes and adversaries of David, concealed, made secret and hidden a trap, plot, source or agent of calamity on behalf of me, David”. David shared how the wicked foes placed a hidden trap in the path upon which he traveled.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David understood that there was nothing that he experienced of which Jehovah God was unaware. Even when pernicious people attempted to set a secret trap in David's pathway, God was with him. This is what an intimate personal relationship with God looks like, and God wants us to come to Him when our “souls” become weak and feeble as well. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for all our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be available to listen to us when we are “overwhelmed” and when wicked people set “secret traps” into which they desire we fall.

Next time David says, I looked on my right hand, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Pouring Out My Complaint Before God - Psalms 142:2

In Psalms one hundred and forty two David said, “I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication”, and in chapter one hundred and forty two and verse two of Psalms David said, “I poured out my complaint before him where we read,

I poured out my complaint before him; I showed before him my trouble.

The verse begins, I poured out my complaint before him; David began with the words, “I poured out my complaint” or “I, David, spilled, shed and expended my, David's, meditation, musing, anxiety and trouble” “before him” which means “in front and in the presence of him, Jehovah God”. David shared how he expended his anxiety and trouble in the presence of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “I showed before him my trouble.” David added the words, “I showed before him” or “I, David, told, made known and announced to him, Jehovah God” “my trouble” which means “my, David's, straits, distresses, vexations and tribulations”. David shared how he told Jehovah God about his distresses and vexations.

When we think through David's words in this verse, we learn how he spilled out his meditation and anxiety in front of Jehovah God, and he told him about his tribulations. God wants us to come to him when we are troubled and stressed, and when we realize He loves us and proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we have the choice to rely upon, trust in and cling to Him. When we yield to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and exist as One to whom we “pour out our complaint” and “show our troubles”.

Next time David says, When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

I Cried unto the LORD - Psalms 142:1

Psalms one hundred and forty two begins with the phrase, “[[Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave.]]” which breaks down “Maschil” or “a didactic poem or song of contemplation” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”: “A Prayer” or “an intercession or supplication which by implication is a hymn” “when he was in the cave” which means “at the time and moment he, David, within the dark cavern, den or hole. (See 1 Samuel 22, 24)”, and in chapter one hundred and forty two and verse one of Psalms David said, “I cried out unto the LORD with my voice where we read,

I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.

The verse begins, I cried unto the LORD with my voice; David began with the words, “I cried” or “I, David, called out, summoned and announced publicly” “unto the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “with my voice” or “by the use of my, David's, sound and noise of uttered words”. David shared how he called out to Jehovah God by the sounds of his uttered words.

The verse goes on to say, “with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.” David continued with the words, “with my voice” or “by the use of my, David's, sound and noise of uttered words” “unto the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “did I make my supplication” or “did I, David, implore, entreat and pray to show favor, grace, pity and mercy”. David repeated the idea that he employed the sound of his utter words to intercede for Jehovah God's favor, grace, pity and mercy.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David called out in intercession to Jehovah God. David knew to go to God with his troubles and difficulties, and God wants us to come to Him with the concerns of our lives. When we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we have the opportunity to yield our lives to Him. When we surrender, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be available for us to “cry out to Him” every day of our lives.

Next time David says, I poured out my complaint before him, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

The Wicked Falling into Their Own Nets - Psalms 141:10

In Psalms one hundred and forty one David said to Jehovah God, “Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity”, and in chapter one hundred and forty one and verse ten of Psalms David said, let the wicked fall into their own nets” where we read,

Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while that I withal escape.

The verse begins, “Let the wicked fall into their own nets, ... David began with the words, “let the wicked fall” or “allow and permit people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God be cast into, down and assigned by lot” “into their own nets” which means “in their, the wicked people's, own personal snares, dark areas of concealment and blackened heat”. David wanted the wicked people to be cast into their own dark areas of concealment.

The verse goes on to say, “... while that I withal escape.” David continued with the words, “while that I” or “during the time and moment that I, David” “withal escape” which means “am united together to pass over, advance through and beyond the wicked people”. David added that he wanted Jehovah God to bring reciprocity upon the wicked during the time that he passed over and got away from them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David knew how to give the power of vengeance upon his enemies over to Jehovah God. God would not only judge these evildoers, but would preserve David as he journeyed away from them. God loves people, and when we commit ourselves to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring judgment upon those who set “nets” for us as He allows us to “escape” from their pernicious acts and deeds.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, I cried unto the LORD with my voice, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
