The Hidden Snare of the Proud - Psalms 140:5

In Psalms one hundred and forty David said, “Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings”, and in chapter one hundred and forty and verse five of Psalms David said, the proud have hid a snare for mewhere we read,

The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside;

they have set gins for me. Selah.

The verse begins, “The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; David began with the words, “the proud” or “the lofty and arrogant people” “have hid a snare for me” which means “have concealed, laid in secret and privily set a gin or trap on behalf of me, David”, “and cords” or “and ropes, bands and ruinous tackling”. David shared how lofty and arrogant people secretly laid a trap for him, and they had ruinous ropes to bind him as well.

The verse continues, “they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.” David added the words, “they have spread a net” or “they, the proud, have scattered and stretched out a net or trap for catching animals” “by the wayside” which means “along the fractional part, power, means or direction”; “they have set gins for me” or “they, the proud, have put, fixed, appointed, constituted and imposed baits, lures and hooks on behalf of me, David”. “Selah” which means “lift up, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. David said the “proud” people spread out lures and a trapping net for him.

When we meditate upon David's words in this verse, we see how he understood that arrogant people appointed netted traps for him, and they hid them as to catch him by surprise. These prideful ones stretched out a netted trap like those that catch animals, and they appointed lures and baits for David as well. God was well aware of the people who came against David, and because God loved David, He saved Him. God loves us as well, and rather than be caught by the pride of arrogant people, God will rescue us through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from lofty and arrogant people who desire to catch us in their traps.

Next time David says, I said unto the LORD, You are my God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
