Idols with Useless Ears and Breath - Psalms 135:17

In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist said, “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist shared about the, “ears and breath” of the idols where we read,

They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.

The verse begins, “They have ears, but they hear not; The Psalmist began with the words, “they have ears” or “they, the idols made with silver and gold, own and possess physical ears”, “but they hear not” which means “however, nevertheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the silver and gold idols, are unable to listen, perceive, hearken or be obedient”. The Psalmist shared how the images made with silver and gold possess physical ears, but they are useless because they cannot perceive anything.

The verse goes on to say, “neither is there any breath in their mouths. The Psalmist continued with the words, “neither is there any breath” or “no and not in any way does their exist wind or air” “in their mouths” which means “within the orifices in their faces used for eating, drinking or speaking”. The Psalmist shared how there was no wind at all within the orifice in the idol's faces.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he added to the uselessness of the man-made images' mouths and eyes. These images had ears to ear and mouths to breathe, but they could do neither. These were futile and ineffective gods, and yet the God of the Universe makes Himself available to have fellowship with every person. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the value of having an effective God who in no way is limited and useless like man-made gods.

Next time the Psalmist says, “they that make them are like unto them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
