In Psalms one hundred and thirty nine David said, “Surely you will slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, you bloody men. For they speak against you wickedly, and your enemies take your name in vain”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty nine and verse twenty-one of Psalms David asked, “Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate you?” where we read,
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate you? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against you?
The verse begins, “Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate you?” David began with the words, “Do I not hate them” or “is there no way or manner that I, David, am not odious and as an adversary or foe to them, the people who are as follows”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “that hate you” or “who are odious and as an adversary or foe to you, Jehovah God”? David asked how there could be any way other than for him exist in hateful opposition to the people are in hateful opposition to Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “and am not I grieved with those that rise up against you?” David continued with the words, “and am not I grieved” or “and is there no way that I, David, do not exist as loathing, detesting and vexed” “with those that rise up” which means “alongside people who are adversaries” “against you” or “in opposition to you, Jehovah God”? David questioned whether he could be anything but vexed by people who stand in opposition to God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover David's deep hatred for people who have a hatred for Jehovah God. David was vexed with their opposition and rising up as adversaries to Jehovah God. God loves people, however, many of them “hate” Him. Even still, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of every person, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, (even when people have hated Him), and grant us everlasting life. Let us align ourselves with Jehovah God and His Son Jesus and “hate” what God “hates” and be “grieved” with anyone who stands as an adversary to Him.
Next time David says, “I hate them with a perfect hatred”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
