In Psalms one hundred and forty David said, “Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him”, and in chapter one hundred and forty and verse twelve of Psalms David shared about, “the cause of the afflicted” where we read,
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
The verse begins, “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, ...” David began with the words, “I know” or “I, David, perceive, discern, discriminate, discover, distinguish and recognize” “that the LORD” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “will maintain” or “shall fashion, make, accomplish, work and produce” “the cause of the afflicted” which means “the plea, judgment, dispute, strife and legal strife belonging to the humble, wretched, weak, poor and lowly”. David shared how he was well aware of how Jehovah God would accomplish, produce and look out for the disputes and legal strifes belonging to people who are humble and poor.
The verse continues, “... and the right of the poor.” David added the words, “and the right” or “and the seat of justice, ordinance and deciding of a case” “of the poor” which means “belonging to the needy, subject to oppression and abuse”. David said Jehovah God would also produce a seat of justice on behalf of people who are needy and subject to oppression and abuse.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how David understood that Jehovah God would defend and come to the rescue of people who are humble, weak and poor, and He would establish a seat of judgment for people who are needy and subject to abuse. God knows when people are “afflicted”, and He is aware of the “humble and needy”. He will bring about judgment upon those who oppress them, even still He offers salvation through His Son Jesus who died upon the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He shall contend with those who abuse and afflict the poor and needy.
Next time David says, “surely the righteous shall give thanks unto your name”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
