God's Strong Hand and Stretched Out Arm - Psalms 136:12

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endures for ever. And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God delivered Israel, “with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm” where we read,

With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, “With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: The Psalmist began with the words, “with a strong hand” or “by the use of a mighty and powerful hand of authority”, “and with a stretched out arm” which means “and by the use of an extended and spread out forearm”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God delivered the people of “Israel” from “Egypt” by the use of his mighty hand of authority and spread apart arm.

The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist repeated the idea that Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these qualities shall last unto perpetuity.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how God employed His mighty hand of authority and extended arm to rescue the people of “Israel” from “Egypt”. God engaged Himself with His people, and when they needed salvation, He responded. The same is true today. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our life to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show Himself mighty and strong in delivering anyone who yields to Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “divided the Red sea into parts”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
