The Head of Those Who Compass Me - Psalms 140:9

In Psalms one hundred and forty David said, “Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah”, and in chapter one hundred and forty and verse nine of Psalms David shared about, those that compass me aboutwhere we read,

As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

The verse begins, As for the head of those that compass me about, David began with the words, “as for the head” or “in regards to the top, upper one, chief and best” “of those that compass me about” which means “belonging to the wicked people who surround and encircle me, David” allow the following to happen to them. David referred to the chief of the wicked people who surrounded him, and he desired that they be allow to experience the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... let the mischief of their own lips cover them.” David continued with the words, “let the mischief” or “allow and permit the toil, trouble and labor” “of their own lips” which means “belonging to their, the wicked people's, lips upon the mouth to speak language, speech and binding boundaries” “cover them” or “conceal, hide, spread over and overwhelm them, the wicked people who were opposed to David and his people”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow the trouble and labor of the wicked people's own language and speech to overwhelm them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David took his concerns over his enemies to Jehovah God. God knew who was the leader of these people, so when they surrounded David, David called upon God to permit them to receive the trouble they spoke about bringing upon David and his people. This is called the law of reciprocity or sowing what one has reaped. (See Galatians 6:7) God knows everyone, and nothing is hidden from Him. He desires to save every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with those who surround us with the trouble they speak about coming upon us.

Next time David says, let burning coals fall upon them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
