Land for an Heritage - Psalms 136:21

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “slew famous kings: for his mercy endures for ever. Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endures for ever. And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse twenty-one of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “gave their land for an heritage” where we read,

And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endures for ever:

The verse begins, “And gave their land for an heritage: The Psalmist began with the words, “and gave their land” or “and put, set, appointed, assigned, granted, bestowed and designated their, Sihon and Og's, country, territory, region and district” “for an heritage” which means “as a possession, share, portion and inheritance”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God granted the territories and districts of “Sihon and Og” to the nation of Israel.

The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist shared again how Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these traits of God shall continue unto perpetuity.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God bestowed the property that belonged to “Sihon and Og” to the people of Israel after He destroyed them. God loves Israel, and He gave them their land. He loves us, and He provides for us as well. He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide gifts to us through His Holy Spirit throughout our lives and unto eternity. (See Ephesians 4:8)

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God gave, “an heritage unto Israel his servant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
