Set a Watch Before My Mouth - Psalms 141:3

In Psalms one hundred and forty one David said to Jehovah God, “Let my prayer be set forth before you as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice”, and in chapter one hundred and forty one and verse three of Psalms David said, Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth” where we read,

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

The verse begins, Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; David began with the words, “set a watch” or “put, appoint, fix and constitute a guard”, “O LORD” which means “'O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “before my mouth” or “in front and in the presence of my, David's, orifice in the face employed for drinking, eating and speaking”. David called upon Jehovah God to appoint a guard in front of his “mouth”.

The verse continues, “keep the door of my lips.” David added the words, “keep the door” or “guard, watch over and observe the gate” “of my lips” which means “belonging to my, David's, language, speech and talk”. David requested that Jehovah God establish a guard over the opening and lips of his mouth.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David wanted God to protect him from his own words. God made our mouths and lips, and they are designed to help us sustain our lives and to communicate with others. However, many times what we say has a lasting impact upon people in a bad way, and these are the type of words and phrases that David wanted God to protect. Jesus said, “every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment”. (See Matthew 12:36), and James wrote, “in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” (See James 3:2). These two statements should influence us to receive Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins to be our “Savior and Lord”, and when we yield ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from saying things that we shall not only regret but also for which we shall be judged.

Next time David says to Jehovah God, Incline not my heart to any evil thing, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
