God Made the Moon and Stars - Psalms 136:9

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said of Jehovah God that He, “by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endures for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endures for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endures for ever. The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God made, “the moon and stars to rule by night” where we read,

The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, “The moon and stars to rule by night: The Psalmist began with the words, “the moon” or “the lunar or nighttime celestial body” “and stars” which means “and the celestial shining bodies within the sky” “to rule by night” or “to reign, have dominion and power throughout the nighttime hours or from sunset to sunrise”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God created both the “moon and stars” within the sky to have dominion over the nighttime hours.

The verse continues, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist added the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these characteristics shall last throughout eternity.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he continued to share about the celestial bodies in the skies which were created by Jehovah God. God is Almighty, and His power is beyond measure, and yet, He desires to have a personal relationship with all of us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and reveal His creative power over the “moon, stars and other celestial bodies” in the skies.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “smote Egypt in their firstborn”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
