Beset Behind and Before - Psalms 139:5

In Psalms one hundred and thirty nine David said, “there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, you know it altogether”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty nine and verse five of Psalms David said, you have beset me behind and beforewhere we read,

You have beset me behind and before, and laid your hand upon me.

The verse begins, “You have beset me behind and before, ... David began with the words, “you have beset me” or “you, Jehovah God, have besieged, confined, enclosed and secured me, David” “behind and before” which means “from the backside or rear and from the frontside”. David shared how Jehovah God enclosed and secured him from his backside to his frontside.

The verse goes on to say, “... and laid your hand upon me. David continued with the words, “and laid your hand” or “and put, set, fixed, appointed and set to mind your, Jehovah God's, hand of power, might and authority” “upon me” which means “on me, David”. David shared how Jehovah God put His hand of power and might upon him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David recognized that Jehovah God surrounded him. God was in back of him, and God was in front of him. There was no place David had been or would go that God was not there, and He placed His mighty hand of authority upon His life. God is eternal, and He desires to have an everlasting relationship with every one of us. Sin kept us from relating to this Holy God, so He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He rose from the dead three days later, and now every person who surrenders their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and assured of the presence and hand of God upon them wherever they have been and wherever they may go.

Next time David says, such knowledge is too wonderful for me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
