God Divided the Red Sea - Psalms 136:13

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endures for ever. And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endures for ever. With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “divided the Red sea into parts” where we read,

To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endures for ever:

The verse begins, “To him which divided the Red sea into parts: The Psalmist began with the words, “to him which divided” or “to him, Jehovah God, who cut in two and separated” “the Red sea” which means “the large body of water known as the Red sea” “into parts” or “in separate portions or pieces”. The Psalmist recalled how Jehovah God separated the “Red Sea” when the people of “Israel” were being pursued by the “Egyptians” in the wilderness. (See Exodus 14:21,22,29)

The verse continues, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist added the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist once again stated the idea that Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these qualities of God shall last perpetually.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist continued to share about Jehovah God's deliverance of the people of “Israel” from “Egypt”, and when they believed themselves to be trapped, God separated the “Red Sea” and they walked across it on dry ground. God loves the people of “Israel”, and He rescued them over and over again in the Bible. He loves us as well, and His desire is to deliver us from the penalty of sin which is death because His Son Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us over and over again how He will rescue us when there are “seas” of obstacles before us.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “made Israel to pass through the midst of it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
