In Psalms one hundred and forty David said, “Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man”, and in chapter one hundred and forty and verse two of Psalms David said the evil and violent men, “imagine mischiefs in their heart”, where we read,
Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
The verse begins, “Which imagine mischiefs in their heart;” David began with the words, “which imagine mischiefs” or “think, plan, calculate and make judgments about evil, unpleasant, displeasing, hurtful and wicked things” “in their heart” which means “within their souls, minds, wills, desires, consciences, living beings and seats of emotions and passions”. David said the wicked and cruel people plan and make judgments about wicked acts and deeds within their souls, minds and wills.
The verse goes on to say, “continually are they gathered together for war.” David continued with the words, “continually are they gathered together” or “day by day they, the wicked and cruel people, assemble, sojourn, abide, dwell and remain” “for war” which means “on behalf of engagement, battle and fighting”. David said the wicked and cruel people constantly assemble to engage in battle and fighting.
When we consider David's words in this verse, we learn how he knew the thinking of people who are wicked and cruel. They perpetually conspired within their souls, minds and wills to perform evil deeds, and they assembled for battle and fighting. We may know people like this. These ways are sins against people and God, and they are the ones for which Jesus Christ, God's Son, was sent into the world to die on the cross. God loves people, and He wants everyone to be saved. He will deliver and rescue anyone who will believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, however, those who refuse Him and choose their own evil ways will contend with the God of the Universe who shall bring all things into judgment. (See Ecclesiastes 12:14)
Next time David says, “they have sharpened their tongues like a serpent”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
