In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist speaking of Sihon and Og said Jehovah God, “gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse twenty-two of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God gave, “an heritage unto Israel his servant” where we read,
Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endures for ever.
The verse begins, “Even an heritage unto Israel his servant:” The Psalmist began with the words, “even an heritage” or “also and indeed a possession, property, portion, share and inheritance” “unto Israel” which means “to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “his servant” or “his, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile condition and worshiper”. The Psalmist emphasized Jehovah God's giving the possession and property of “Sihon and Og” to the nation of “Israel” who served and worshiped Him.
The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist repeated his thought about Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these characteristics everlastingly shall remain.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist repeated the idea of Jehovah God giving the lands of “Sihon and Og” to the nation of “Israel”. “Israel” served and worshiped Jehovah God, and although they were not a perfect people, they were a loved people. God gives to us as well. He created us, gives us breath, sustains our life and allows us to come to know Him through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bestow gifts upon us over and over again in this life and in the life to come. (See Ephesians 4:8)
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “remembered us in our low estate”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
