God Made the Sun to Rule - Psalms 136:8

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said of Jehovah God that He, “by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endures for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endures for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God made, “the sun to rule by day” where we read,

The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endures for ever:

The verse begins, “The sun to rule by day:” The Psalmist began with the words, “the sun” or “to sun in the sky” “to rule by day” which means “to reign, have dominion and power throughout the sunrise to sunset or daylight hours”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God created the “sun in the sky” to have power and dominion over the daytime hours.

The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist repeated that Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these qualities shall last from everlasting to everlasting.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist continued his review of the creation power of Jehovah God. God made the “sun” in the sky that has dominion over the daytime hours. This same powerful Creator God desires to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us an opportunity to give Him thanksgiving, praise and honor for His marvelous works in the skies.
