In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endures for ever. And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endures for ever. But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse sixteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “led his people through the wilderness” where we read,
To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endures for ever.
The verse begins, “To him which led his people through the wilderness:” The Psalmist began with the words, “to him which led his people” or “to him, Jehovah God, who proceeded, moved, guided and caused the walk of his, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female” “through the wilderness” which means “by way of and along the uninhabited land and desert”. (See Exodus 13:18; 15:22) The Psalmist referred to when Jehovah God guided the nation of Israel along the uninhabited desert after delivering them from Egypt.
The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist stated again the idea that Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and His traits shall last eternally.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist continued to share about Jehovah God's deliverance and sustenance of the people of Israel from Egypt. God cared for them as He guided them through the desert “wilderness”, and even as this world is often similar to a “desert”, God desires to lead us by His Holy Spirit. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead guide us into all truth by His Spirit as we walk through this “wilderness” life. (See John 16:13)
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “smote great kings”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
