In Psalms one hundred thirty five the Psalmist said, “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths”, and in chapter one hundred thirty five and verse eighteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “they that make them are like unto them” where we read,
They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusts in them.
The verse begins, “They that make them are like unto them:” The Psalmist began with the words, “they that make them” or “they, the people who fashion and produce the images of silver and gold, who bring forth and form them, the idols” “are like unto them” which means “exist as similar and in likeness to them, the idols”. The Psalmist said the people who fashion the images of silver and gold are similar to them.
The verse continues, “so is every one that trusts in them.” The Psalmist added the words, “so is every one” or “also and indeed exists each, all, the whole and everyone of the people both male and female” “that trusts in them” which means “who have faith, confidence and security in the idols made with silver and gold”. The Psalmist said all the people who have faith and confidence within the useless idols made with silver and gold exist in a similar manner to the images themselves.
When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how useless it is to worship images made by people. Jehovah God alone is to be worshiped by mankind, because only He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. God alone is able to forgive sins and grant everlasting life to anyone who yields to Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, and all other objects of worship turn the people who worship them into the ineffectual gods they are. God loves us, and when we worship Him, we align with His plan of salvation for everyone. Let us give praise and worship to Him and leave all other gods to their futile existence throughout all eternity.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Bless the LORD, O house of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
