Give Thanks Unto God - Psalms 136:26

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endures for ever. And has redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endures for ever. Who gives food to all flesh: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse twenty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “give thanks unto the God of heaven” where we read,

O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, “O give thanks unto the God of heaven: The Psalmist began with the words, “O give thanks” or “O grant, bestow and set forth thanksgiving, laud and praise” “unto the God” which means “to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of heaven” or “belonging to the visible sky, atmosphere and the abode of the stars and Jehovah God”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to bestow thanksgiving and praise upon Jehovah God who resides in the heavenly realm.

The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist reiterated how Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these traits of God shall continue eternally.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist ended this chapter in a similar way to the way he began it. All people should give praise, honor, thanksgiving and glory to Jehovah God who is the Almighty God whose “mercy” shall continue forever. God loves us, and when we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we should yield our lives to Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and shown the wonderful works and mercy of God that deserve our greatest praise and honor for all He has done.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “by the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
