Deliver Me, O LORD - Psalms 140:1

Psalms one hundred and forty begins with the phrase, “[[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent overseer, superintendent, or chief choir director”, “a Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” or belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter one hundred and forty and verse one of Psalms David said, deliver me, O LORDwhere we read,

Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

The verse begins, “Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: David began with the words, “deliver me” or “remove, draw away, rescue and withdraw me, David”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “from the evil man” or “separate and apart from the bad, disagreeable, malignant, unpleasant and ethically wicked person whether male or female”. David called upon Jehovah God to rescue and separate him from the person who is wicked and bad.

The verse continues, “preserve me from the violent man;” David added the words, “preserve me” or “guard, watch over and keep me, David” “from the violent man” which means “separate and apart from the cruel, wrong, unjust and false person whether male or female”. David appealed to Jehovah God to watch over and keep him from people who are cruel and wrong.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David wanted Jehovah God to rescue and protect him from people who are wicked and cruel. Evil and unjust people lived in David's day, and they exist today. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He offers His “salvation” to everyone. However, some people refuse to receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and these people conduct themselves in pernicious ways. God will contend with them, and He will “rescue” us from them eventually when we surrender our lives to Him, have our sins forgiven and receive His eternal life that was given through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Next time David says the evil and violent men, imagine mischiefs in their heart, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
