In Psalms one hundred thirty seven the Psalmist said, “O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewards you as you have served us”, and in chapter one hundred thirty seven and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist shared about one who, “takes and dashes your little ones against the stones” where we read,
Happy shall he be, that takes and dashes your little ones against the stones.
The verse begins, “Happy shall he be, ...” The Psalmist began with the word, “happy” or “blessed” “shall he be” which means “will the person exist who is as follows”. The Psalmist repeated the idea about the person who is blessed and joyful because they perform the following acts.
The verse continues, “that takes and dashes your little ones against the stones.” The Psalmist added the words, “that takes and dashes” or “who grasps, takes hold of, seizes and shatters, breaks and beats in pieces” “your little ones” which means “your, the daughter of Babylon's, sucklings, infants and babies” “against the stones” or “toward and unto the crags, cliffs and rocks”. The Psalmist said the person who seizes and shatters into pieces the infants and sucklings of “Babylon” would exist as a blessed people.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how deeply the Psalmist felt about people who are opposed to “Jerusalem” and “Israel”. God loves the nation of Israel because it is the nation through whom all nations are to be blessed. (See Genesis 18:18, 22:18, 26:4 and Galatians 3:8) God's Son Jesus is the Christ and Messiah of the world, and He came to “Jerusalem” to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of “Jerusalem” and “Israel” so that horrific judgment does not come upon us for being in opposition to Him and His people.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “I will praise you with my whole heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
