Remember the Children of Edom - Psalms 137:7

In Psalms one hundred thirty seven the Psalmist said, “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember you, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy”, and in chapter one hundred thirty seven and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “remember, O LORD, the children of Edom” where we read,

Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem;

who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

The verse begins, “Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; The Psalmist began with the words, “remember, O LORD” or “call to mind, bring to remembrance and recall, O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “the children of Edom” which means “the offspring and progeny belonging to Edom whose name means red and was the land of Edom, Idumea which was the land south and south east of Palestine” “in the day” or “within the time period and age” “of Jerusalem” which means “belonging to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to bring to mind the offspring and progeny of the nation of “Edom” within the time period which belongs to the city of “Jerusalem”.

The verse continues, “who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. The Psalmist added the words, “who said, Rase it” or “who, the offspring of Edom, uttered, declared and proclaimed, empty, make bare, nude and destitute the city of Jerusalem”, “rase it” which means “empty, make bare, nude, destitute and empty the city of Jerusalem”, “even to the foundation thereof” or “ also and indeed toward the base and bottom within the city”. The Psalmist shared how the offspring of “Edom” uttered and proclaimed that “Jerusalem” should be emptied and made destitute to the core.

When we mediate upon Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he desired that Jehovah God bring to mind the nation of “Edom” and their offspring because they wanted “Jerusalem” to be emptied and destroyed. God knows the people who are opposed to “Jerusalem”, and He shall contend with them. “Jerusalem” was the place where God's Son Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Let us “remember” “Jerusalem” and never be among the people who desire that it be emptied and destroyed.

Next time the Psalmist says, “O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
