God Remembered Us - Psalms 136:23

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endures for ever. Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse twenty-three of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “remembered us in our low estate” where we read,

Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endures for ever:

The verse begins, “Who remembered us in our low estate: The Psalmist began with the words, “who remembered us” or “who, Jehovah God, recalled, brought to mind and was reminded of the Psalmist and his people” “in our low estate” which means “within our, the Psalmist and his people's, lowliness, humble rank and condition”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God called to mind the Psalmist and his people's humble condition and lowliness.

The verse continues, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist added the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist repeated the phrase of how Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and perpetually these characteristics of God will continue.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God brought to mind the Psalmist and his people in their humble state. Peter the apostle wrote, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (See 1 Peter 5:6), and when we are broken and lowly before God, He sees us and will indeed lift us up. God loves us, and He knew we were in a sinful state that kept us from a personal relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus who humbled Himself to die on the cross for our sins (See Philippians 2:8), and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and exalt us to a place that we cannot obtain otherwise. Let all praise, honor and glory be to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for remembering us in our lowly state.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “has redeemed us from our enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
