The God of Gods - Psalms 136:2

In Psalms one hundred thirty six the Psalmist said, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endures for ever”, and in chapter one hundred and thirty six and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O give thanks unto the God of gods” where we read,

O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endures for ever.

The verse begins, “O give thanks unto the God of gods: The Psalmist began with the words, “O give thanks” or “O grant and bestow thanksgiving, laud and praise” “unto the God of gods” which means “to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God who is above all rulers and judges”. The Psalmist exhorted His readers and listeners to grant thanksgiving to Jehovah God who exists as the Divine judge and ruler over all other rulers and judges.

The verse goes on to say, “for his mercy endures for ever. The Psalmist continued with the words, “for his mercy” or “because, since and on account that his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “endures for ever” which means “lasts and remains for long duration, unto futurity, everlasting, evermore, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist proclaimed that Jehovah God is pleasant, good, kind and faithful, and these qualities shall remain eternally.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist added another exhortation to his readers and listeners. They were to bestow thanksgiving upon Jehovah God who is the Divine judge above every other “god” that may be worshiped. He added the phrase about God's “goodness, kindness and faithfulness” lasting eternally, and anyone who truly considers who God is will realize that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be a part of the people who bestow thanksgiving and praise upon Jehovah God for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “O give thanks to the Lord of lords”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
