A Companion of People Who Fear God - Psalms 119:63

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto you because of your righteous judgments”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse sixty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I am a companion of all them that fear you” where we read,

I am a companion of all them that fear you, and of them that keep your precepts.

The verse begins, “I am a companion of all them that fear you, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I am a companion” or “I, the Psalmist, exist as an associate, fellow and worshiper” “of all them” which means “belonging to each, every, the whole and everyone of the people” “that fear you” or “who are in awe, respect, reverence and honor for you, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said he was a fellow worshiper and associate of every person who reverenced and was in awe of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... and of them that keep your precepts.” The Psalmist added the words, “and of them” or “and belonging to them, the people both male and female” “that keep your precepts” which means “who watch over, guard, observe, protect and have charge of your, Jehovah God's, statutes, mandates, appointments and commandments”. The Psalmist said he also was a “companion” of people who observed and had charge of Jehovah God's commandments and laws.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist kept relationships with people who reverenced Jehovah God and were in awe of Him. He also affiliated Himself with people who observe God's commandments and laws. God wants a family of people who revere Him and observe His direction for living. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to keep company with people who honor Him and observe His laws.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the earth, O LORD, is full of your mercy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
