Like a Bottle in the Smoke - Psalms 119:83

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, My eyes fail for your word, saying, When will you comfort me?, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse eighty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I am become like a bottle in the smoke” where we read,

For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget your statutes.

The verse begins, For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; The Psalmist began with the words, “for I am become” or “because, since and on account that I, the Psalmist, have fallen out, happened and come about” “like a bottle” which means “similar and in likeness to a skin leather bag” “in the smoke” or “within the thick fume, cloud or vapor”. The Psalmist said he shriveled up and fell out to be similar to a leather bag or wineskin within a vapor zone.

The verse goes on to say,yet do I not forget your statutes. The Psalmist continued with the words, “yet do I not forget” or “still I, the Psalmist, in no way or manner ignore, cease to care for and not remember” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, limits, boundaries and prescribed tasks or portions”. The Psalmist said even though he was shriveled up like a wineskin, he continued to remember the ordinances and limits belonging to Jehovah God.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he felt like a shriveled up wineskin within a vaporous and smokey place, but it did not deter him from remembering the ordinances and boundaries given by Jehovah God. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us when we feel like a shriveled wineskin in “smoke” as we keep His ordinances and laws in our minds.

Next time the Psalmist asks, “How many are the days of your servant?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
