Blessed are the Undefiled - Psalms 119:1

Psalms one hundred nineteen is the longest Psalm in the Bible. It contains verses after verses that include a reference to the law, way, word, testimony and commandments of Jehovah God. It contains twenty-two sections that have eight verses each, and they correspond to the Hebrew alphabet. Some believe that this is done for help with memorization, but this we know, the first verse begins with the Hebrew letter, “ALEPH” which is “the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Blessed are the undefiled where we read,

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

The verse begins with the words, Blessed are the undefiled in the way, ... The Psalmist began with the word, “blessed” or “O how happy” “are the undefiled” which means “exist people who are complete, whole, entire, sound, healthful, unimpaired, innocent and with integrity” “in the way” or “within the journey, manner, habit and course of life”. The Psalmist said people who live in a sound, healthful and innocent manner exist as O how happy.

The verse continues, “... who walk in the law of the LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “who walk” or “the people who amble about and make their way” “in the law” which means “within the direction, instruction, custom, manner and codes of law” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said the undefiled people who exist as O how happy make their way within the direction, instruction and manner of Jehovah God's codes for living.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how people who live with integrity and in an innocent way exist as O how happy, and these people make their way through life according to Jehovah God's instruction and direction for living. God wants us to live according to His ways because He knows what is best for us. He wants to have a personal relationship with us, and He provided His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so we could be forgiven and live with Him forever. Each verse in this Psalm will make reference to the “word of God”, and we will be blessed throughout our lives for following His word.

Next time we see the Psalmist say, “Blessed are they that keep his testimonies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
