Praising God with Uprightness of Heart - Psalms 119:7

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes. Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all your commandments”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist says, “I will praise you with uprightness of heart where we read,

I will praise you with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned your righteous judgments.

The verse begins, I will praise you with uprightness of heart, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I will praise you” or “I, the Psalmist, shall laud, give thanks, confess and adore you, Jehovah God” “with uprightness of heart” which means “by the use of straightness, evenness and what is right and due pertaining to the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist declared that he would give thanks and adoration to Jehovah God with straightness belonging to his soul, mind and will.

The verse continues, “... when I shall have learned your righteous judgments.” The Psalmist added the words, “when I shall have learned” or “at the time and moment I, the Psalmist, will have been taught, trained and diligently instructed in” “your righteous judgments” which means “your, Jehovah God's, justice, rightness, delivering, victorious and prosperous ordinances, seats of judgment, litigation, process and procedure”. The Psalmist said he would give Jehovah God adoration and thanks with straightness of his soul at the time he was diligently instructed in Jehovah God's ordinances and procedures.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he determined to give honor and adoration to Jehovah God at the time he was instructed in His right and victorious processes. God's way for mankind is best, and when He gave His law, He knew what is best for us. Because we violated His law, we have sinned, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of us all. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with us through Jesus, and when we yield ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to “praise” Him with “upright hearts” for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I will keep your statutes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
