In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn your statutes”, and in chapter one hundred and nineteen and verse seventy-two of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “the law of your mouth is better to me” where we read,
The law of your mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
The verse begins, “The law of your mouth is better unto me ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “the law” or “direction, instruction and codes of law” “of your mouth” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “is better to me” or “exists as pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable to me, the Psalmist” The Psalmist said Jehovah God's instruction and code of law exists as pleasant and valuable to him.
The verse continues, “... than thousands of gold and silver.” The Psalmist added the words, “than thousands of gold” or “more than or compared to a thousand thousand measures of brilliant, splendorous and shimmering gold metal” “and silver” which means “and silver metal”. The Psalmist said “the law” of Jehovah God's “mouth” was more valuable to him than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
When we meditate upon words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist considered Jehovah God's “law” more valuable to him that silver and gold. When God gave mankind His “commandments” (See Exodus 20), He had the best life for them in mind. We, however, violated God's commandments and thereby sinned against Him. Paul the apostle wrote, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23). This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the superior value of His “law” in our lives compared to silver and gold.
Next time we begin the next section of the one hundred and nineteenth Psalm with the Hebrew letter “JOD” where the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “your hands have made me and fashioned me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
