Let My Heart Be Sound - Psalms 119:80

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Let those that fear you turn unto me, and those that have known your testimonies”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse eighty of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Let my heart be sound in your statutes” where we read,

Let my heart be sound in your statutes; that I be not ashamed.

The verse begins, Let my heart be sound in your statutes; The Psalmist began with the words, “Let my heart be sound” or “allow and permit my, the Psalmist's, soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions exist as complete, whole, entire, healthy, wholesome, unimpaired and innocent” “in your statutes” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, limits, resolves, decrees and prescribed tasks and boundaries”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to allow his soul to be whole and complete within His ordinances and decrees.

The verse continues, “that I be not ashamed.” The Psalmist added the words, “that I be” or “so I, the Psalmist, exist and live” “not ashamed” which means “without shame, disconcertedness and disappointment”. The Psalmist said when his soul and mind were complete and whole within the ordinances and decrees of Jehovah God, he would not be disconcerted or filled with shame.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover his desire to not suffer shame and embarrassment within his life. He knew when God's “laws” were established within his soul, he would be kept from the “shame” that is associated with violating God's way. When we examine the lives of ourselves and other who have suffered “shame”, we will usually discover that they broke a “law” of God, and because of this, all people have “sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (See Romans 3:23) God's Son Jesus was sent into the world as the Christ and Messiah who died on the cross for the sins of every person, and whoever puts their faith and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and kept from the embarrassment that violating God's law brings upon a person.

Next time we begin the next section of the one hundred and nineteenth Psalm with the Hebrew letter “CAPH” where the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “My soul faints for your salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
