Save Now, O LORD - Psalms 118:25

In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “the stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse twenty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Save now, I beseech you, O LORD” where we read,

Save now, I beseech you, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech you, send now prosperity.

The verse begins with the words, Save now, I beseech you, O LORD: The Psalmist began with the words, “save now” or “deliver, rescue and liberate at this present time and moment”, “I beseech you” which means “I, the Psalmist, beg, ask and appeal to you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist pleaded with Jehovah God to rescue and deliver him and his people.

The verse goes on to say, “O LORD, I beseech you, send now prosperity.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “send now prosperity” which means “rush, advance, make prosperous and successful at this present time and moment ”. The Psalmist said prayed and begged Jehovah God to dispatch and assign success and good fortune.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he not only appealed to Jehovah God for deliverance for him and his people, but also that God would favor and make them successful as well. This may remind us of the Triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem one week before His crucifixion where the people took down palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna, blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord”. (See Matthew 21:9; Mark 11:9-10; John 12:13) God desires to give gifts unto people, and to make this possible, He gave His Son Jesus to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and extend to us His grace and favor to make us successful in this life and the life to come.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Blessed is he that comes in the name of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
