Remove Me from Reproach and Contempt - Psalms 119:22

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “My soul breaks for the longing that it has unto your judgments at all times. You have rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from your commandments”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse twenty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “remove from me reproach and contempt” where we read,

Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept your testimonies.

The verse begins, Remove from me reproach and contempt; The Psalmist began with the words, “remove from me” or “roll away, distance and get rid of apart and separate from me, the Psalmist” “reproach” which means “scorn, shame and disgrace” “and contempt” or “and disrespect, wickedness and disdain”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to get rid of scorn, disgrace, disrespect and disdain that was in his life.

The verse goes on to say, “for I have kept your testimonies.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for I have kept” or “because, since and on account that I, the Psalmist, guarded, watched, preserved and observed” “your testimonies” which means “your, Jehovah God's, witness”. The Psalmist said the reason he wanted God to “remove” “reproach and contempt” from him was because he guarded and watched over God's witness.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he appealed to Jehovah God to distance him from shame and disrespect, and he said the reason was because he observed God's witness. God will preserve us when we yield our lives to Him through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to keep His ordinances so we will not suffer “shame and reproach”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “princes also did sit and speak against me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
