God is the LORD - Psalms 118:27

In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “Blessed is he that comes in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse twenty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “God is the LORD” where we read,

God is the LORD, which has showed us light:

bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.

The verse begins with the words, God is the LORD, which has showed us light: The Psalmist began with the word, “God” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is the LORD” which means “exists as Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”, “which has showed us” or “who has demonstrated, granted, bestowed upon and given to us, the Psalmist and his people” “light” which means “illumination, shining and brilliance”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God who is the Divine judge gave him and his people illumination and brilliance.

The verse goes on to say, “bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “bind the sacrifice with cords” or “tie, gird, harness and make ready the festival-gathering or pilgrim feast by the use of rope, cordage or interwoven foliage”, “even unto the horns” which means “also and indeed to the horn like projections which represented strength and power” “of the altar” or “belonging to the place of slaughter”. The Psalmist instructed the people reading and hearing his words to tie down the offering for the pilgrim feast with rope or cordage to the “horn-like” projections arising from the sacrificial place of slaughter.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist declared Jehovah God exists as the Divine judge and ruler, and He gave him and his people illumination. The Psalmist wanted people to prepare for worship to Jehovah God which is God's expectation for mankind. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us not only to prepare, but also to participate in the worship of Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “O give thanks unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
