In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I know, O LORD, that your judgments are right, and that you in faithfulness have afflicted me”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse seventy-six the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Let … your merciful kindness be for my comfort” where we read,
Let, I pray you, your merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to your word unto your servant.
The verse begins, “Let, I pray you, your merciful kindness be for my comfort, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “Let, I pray you” or “allow and permit, I, the Psalmist, entreat and beseech you, Jehovah God”, “your merciful kindness” which means “your, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “be for my comfort” or “exist on behalf of my, the Psalmist's, consolation, compassion and pity”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to allow His goodness, kindness and faithfulness to be given to him for consolation and pity.
The verse continues, “... according to your word unto your servant.” The Psalmist added the words, “according to your word” or “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance and commandment” “unto your servant” which means “toward your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile work and worshiper”. The Psalmist desired that Jehovah God extend His goodness and kindness toward him in keeping with His utterance to His worshiper.
When we think through the Psalmist words in this verse, we discover his desire to have Jehovah God bless him with His goodness and kindness. This would bring him consolation in keeping with God's promise to him. The Psalmist “served” Jehovah God, and anyone who understands how lovable and kind God is will want to do the same. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16) This confirms God's love for everyone, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and yield to Him as “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with His goodness and kindness to “comfort” us all the days of our lives.
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “Let your tender mercies come unto me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
