In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken you me in your way”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse thirty-eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “establish your word unto your servant” where we read,
Establish your word unto your servant, who is devoted to your fear.
The verse begins, “Establish your word unto your servant, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “establish your word” or “raise up, stand and fix your, Jehovah God's, utterance, speech, commandment and saying” “unto your servant” which means “toward your, Jehovah God's, bondman, man of servile work and worshiper”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to fix and stand up His utterance and commandments upon him while he served as His bondman and worshiper.
The verse continues, “... who is devoted to your fear.” The Psalmist added the words, “who is devoted” or “who, the Psalmist, is dedicated and committed” “to your fear” which means “to your, Jehovah God's, terror, awe, respect, reverence and piety”. The Psalmist said he was committed to the awe and reverence of Jehovah God.
When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he wanted to be raised up and fixed within Jehovah God's “word”, and he was dedicated to the reverence and awe of God to merit it. When we have respect and awe of Jehovah God, we realize He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. As we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fix us within His ordinances and laws according to His perfect will and purpose for our lives that we may be pleasing to Him.
Next time the Psalmist says, “turn away my reproach which I fear”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
