In Psalms one hundred eighteen the Psalmist said, “the stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner”, and in chapter one hundred eighteen and verse twenty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “this is the LORD'S doing” where we read,
This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
The verse begins with the words, “This is the LORD'S doing;” The Psalmist began with the word, “this” or “the making of the stone which the builders refused to be the head stone of the corner” “is the LORD'S doing” which means “exists as the performance, fashioning and making of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said the making of the chief cornerstone out of the stone which the builders rejected was Jehovah God's.
The verse goes on to say, “it is marvelous in our eyes.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “it is marvelous” or “Jehovah God's making the chief cornerstone out of the rejected stone exists as wonderful, surpassing and extraordinary” “in our eyes” which means “in the physical eyes and mental and spiritual faculties of the Psalmist and his people”. The Psalmist said the work of Jehovah God making the rejected stone to be the chief cornerstone was extraordinary and wonderful in the view of the Psalmist and his people.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the reaction of himself and his people to Jehovah God making the rejected “stone” to be the “head stone of the corner”. God's “chief cornerstone” is His Son Jesus who was rejected by the world, but came to be the “appeasing sacrifice” for the sins of all mankind when He died on the cross. (See Ephesians 2:20-22) God loves people, and although they sometimes refuse to receive His Son Jesus, He allowed Him to be crucified for them. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to “marvel” at His work of exaltation and extraordinary grace through His Son Jesus.
Next time the Psalmist says, “this is the day which the LORD has made”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
