Blessed are You, O LORD - Psalms 119:12

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist's said to Jehovah God, “With my whole heart have I sought you: O let me not wander from your commandments. Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist said, “blessed are you, O LORD where we read,

Blessed are you, O LORD: teach me your statutes.

The verse begins, Blessed are you, O LORD: The Psalmist began with the words, “blessed are you” or “O how happy do you, Jehovah God, exist”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist proclaimed that Jehovah God exists as “O how happy”.

The verse goes on to say, “teach me your statutes.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “teach me” or “instruct, exercise and train me, the Psalmist” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, limits, prescribed tasks and portion and decrees”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to instruct him according to His ordinances and limits.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist declared the “blessedness” of Jehovah God, and therefore, God was able to instruct him in His ordinances and rules. God has given us His “statutes”, the Bible, and He wants us to know and keep them. God loves us, and even as we have sinned against Him, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually instruct and guide us into His truth by His Holy Spirit. (See John 16:13)

Next time the Psalmist says, “with my lips have I declared all the judgments”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
