My Soul Breaks - Psalms 119:20

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I am a stranger in the earth: hide not your commandments from me”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse twenty of Psalms the Psalmist said, “my soul breaks where we read,

My soul breaks for the longing that it has unto your judgments at all times.

The verse begins, My soul breaks for the longing ... The Psalmist began with the words, “my soul breaks” or “my, the Psalmist's, heart, mind, will, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions is crushed, broken and dissolved” “for the longing” which means “on behalf of the passionate desire” of the following. The Psalmist said his heart, mind and will was crushed for the desire within him.

The verse goes on to say, “... that it has unto your judgments at all times.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “that it has unto your judgments” or “that the Psalmist's heart owned, possessed and held toward your, Jehovah God's, manners, rights, ordinances and laws” “at all times” which means “in each, every and the whole experiences, fortunes, occurrences and occasions”. The Psalmist said his heart was broken with desire toward Jehovah God's in every experience, occurrence and occasion of his life.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how passionate the Psalmist was for Jehovah God's ordinances and law. The Psalmist wanted God's “word” to be with him in every circumstance and situation of his life, and it becomes obvious to us that he kept God's word with him by the magnitude and focus of this chapter. God wants us to love His “law”, and when we realize that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and believe and trust in Him, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and be infused with a desire to have God's word with us every day of our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have rebuked the proud”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
