Almost Consumed - Psalms 119:87

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, All your commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help you me”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse eighty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “they had almost consumed me” where we read,

They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not your precepts.

The verse begins, They had almost consumed me upon earth; The Psalmist began with the words, “they had almost consumed me” or “they, the proud who dug a pit for the Psalmist, within a little time, shortly and very closely finished, destroyed and wasted me, the Psalmist” “upon earth” which means “on the land, territory, region, country and world”. The Psalmist said the people who were arrogant and proud who dug pits for him nearly destroyed and finished him while he lived in the world.

The verse goes on to say,but I forsook not your precepts . The Psalmist continued with the words, “but I forsook not” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, the Psalmist, did not leave, refuse or make destitute” “your precepts” which means “your, Jehovah God's, statutes, commandments and law”. The Psalmist shared how he did not leave or refuse the laws and commandments of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he was nearly finished by the arrogant and proud people who dug a pit for him, however he did not make destitute the law and commandments of God as he endured their onslaughts. God wants us to rely upon His word, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to rely upon His commandments and law when people who are proud and arrogant rise up against us.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “quicken me after your lovingkindness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
