Open My Eyes - Psalms 119:18

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live, and keep your word”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse eighteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “open my eyes where we read,

Open you my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.

The verse begins, Open you my eyes, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “open you” or “uncover, remove and lay bare you, Jehovah God” “my eyes” which means “my, the Psalmist's, physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to uncover his physical and spiritual sight so the following would occur.

The verse goes on to say, “... that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “that I may behold” or “so I, the Psalmist, might see, observe, notice and discover” “wondrous things” which means “marvelous, surpassing and extraordinary acts and work” “out of your law” or “from your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction, codes of living, custom and manner”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to “open” his “eyes” so that he would be able to notice and discover the extraordinary works and acts which are within God's precepts, instructions and codes for living.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he wanted God to “open” his “eyes” of understanding and perception because he would then be able to observe God's “law”. God has given us life, breath and the ability to “see” His prescribed manner for living, and He wants us to prosper not only in this life, but also in the life to come. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the price of death for the sins of the world. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “open” our understanding toward His ways. God loves us, and we can do no better than to “see” what He has to say, trust in Him and follow in obedience according to His way to live.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I am a stranger in the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
