In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “You have commanded us to keep your precepts diligently”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes ” where we read,
O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes.
The verse begins, “O that my ways ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “O that” or “O, ah and would that” “my ways” which means “my, the Psalmist's, journey, path and course of life”. The Psalmist passionately desired that his path and course of life existed according to the following.
The verse continues, “... were directed to keep your statutes.” The Psalmist added the words, “were directed to keep” or “were made firm, stable, established, fixed and secured to guard, observe, give heed to and take charge of” “your statutes” which means “your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, prescribed tasks, decrees, appointments and commandments”. The Psalmist desired that his course of life was established toward observing and giving heed to Jehovah God's ordinances and commandments.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist passionately wanted his course of life to be fixed and established according to Jehovah God's commandments and laws. God's “ways” are best, and when we align with Him, we live in a manner that is blessed by Him. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to passionately “keep” His “statutes”.
Next time the Psalmist says, “then shall I not be ashamed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
