Psalms one hundred nineteen and verse twenty five begins the fourth section of this chapter in Psalms and it employs the the fourth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, “DALETH” where the Psalmist said, “my soul cleaves unto the dust” where we read,
My soul cleaves unto the dust: quicken you me according to your word.
The verse begins, “My soul cleaves unto the dust:” The Psalmist began with the words, “my soul” or “my, the Psalmist's, heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions” “cleaves unto the dust” which means “sticks, stays close, follows closely, overtakes and catches the dry earth, powder, ashes, ground, mortar, rubbish and debris”. The Psalmist shared how his heart, mind and will were as though they were overtaken and caught by the powder and debris of the ground.
The verse goes on to say, “quicken you me according to your word.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “quicken you me” or “make alive, restore and prosperous you, Jehovah God, me, the Psalmist” “according to your word” which means “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance, business, occupation, acts, matters, cases and deeds”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to make him alive and prosperous in keeping with His utterances and deeds.
When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how desperate and defeated he was in his heart, mind and will. He needed the restoration and life of Jehovah God, and he knew God was where he could make that appeal. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to remain alive and in keeping with his utterances and deeds.
Next time the Psalmist says, “I have declared my ways”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
