In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept your testimonies”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse twenty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “princes also did sit and speak against me” where we read,
Princes also did sit and speak against me: but your servant did meditate in your statutes.
The verse begins, “Princes also did sit and speak against me:” The Psalmist began with the words, “Princes also” or “rulers, leaders, chiefs, officials, vassals and captains even so and indeed” “did sit” which means “sat, dwelt, remained and abided” “and speak against me” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed words in opposition to me, the Psalmist”. The Psalmist referred to the nobles and chiefs who made declarations and proclamations in opposition to him.
The verse continues, “but your servant did meditate in your statutes.” The Psalmist added the words, “but your servant” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover your, Jehovah God's, bondman, worshiper and man of servile condition” “did meditate” which means “put forth, mused, communed and pondered” “in your statutes” or “within your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, decrees, customs, appointments and commandments”. The Psalmist considered himself a bondman and worshiper of Jehovah God which caused him to ponder and muse in Jehovah God's commandments.
When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how people who were rulers and leaders set themselves in opposition to him with their words, and when this happened, he as God's bondman mused and pondered the commandments and laws of Jehovah God. God wants the same for us because He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into “meditating” in His commandments even when rulers and leaders speak in opposition to us. (See John 16:13)
Next time the Psalmist shares about Jehovah God's, “testimonies ”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
