Hearts as Fat as Grease - Psalms 119:70

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep your precepts with my whole heart”, and in chapter one hundred and nineteen and verse seventy of Psalms the Psalmist said, “their heart is as fat as grease” where we read,

Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in your law.

The verse begins, “Their heart is as fat as grease; The Psalmist began with the words, “their heart” or “their, the people who forged lies against the Psalmist's, souls, minds, will, desires, living beings, consciences and seats of emotions and passions” “is as fat as grease” which means “exists as gross, insensitive, thick and stupid like fatness and marrow”. The Psalmist said the souls, minds and wills of the people who were lying against him were thick and stupid like blubber and fatness.

The verse continues, but I delight in your law.” The Psalmist added the words, “but I delight” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, the Psalmist, am smeared over, blinded and in good acceptation” “in your law” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction, custom, manner and codes of law”. The Psalmist said he was blinded with good acceptance of Jehovah God's direction and codes of law.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist contrasted the lying souls of those who opposed him with his pleasure and acceptation of Jehovah God's way to live. God knows what is best for us, and His “law” was given to protect us and provide for our needs. When we violated His law and thereby became sinners, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to take pleasure in His “law” even when the souls of the people against us are “as fat as grease”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “it is good for me that I have been afflicted”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
