In Psalms one hundred nineteen and verse nine we begin the next section called “BETH” which is the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet and we see how the Psalmist asked, “wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” where we read,
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to your word.
The verse begins, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” The Psalmist began with the word, “wherewithal” or “how, in what way, purpose and reason” “shall a young man” which means “will a youthful lad, servant or boy” “cleanse his way” or “make pure, clean and clear his, the young man's, path, road, travel and manner of living”? The Psalmist questioned how a “youthful lad” makes pure and clean his travel and path of living.
The verse continues, “by taking heed thereto according to your word.” The Psalmist added the words, “by taking heed thereto” or “through the means of keeping, guarding, observing, retaining and celebrating” “according to your word” which means “in compliance with and and conforming to your, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance, business, occupation, acts and commands”. The Psalmist said the way a “young man” makes his “way” pure and clean is by conforming to Jehovah God's utterances and commands.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist questioned how a young person is equipped to keep their way of living clean. His answer was to retain and keep Jehovah God's word within them. This is wonderful verse to memorize because God wants us to live according to His standards, and when we observe, read and learn His “word”, we will cleanse our “way”. God loves us, and He has put ideas in the Bible to guide us as we live. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, so we could be forgiven and inherit everlasting life with Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will give us His Holy Spirit who shall “guide” us into “all truth”, and our lives will not only be clean, but we shall also live in a manner that is pleasing to God. (See John 16:13)
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “with my whole heart have I sought you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
