Remembering God's Judgments of Old - Psalms 119:52

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from your law”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse fifty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I remembered your judgments of old, O LORD” where we read,

I remembered your judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.

The verse begins, “I remembered your judgments of old, O LORD; The Psalmist began with the words, “I remembered” or “I, the Psalmist, called to mind, brought to memory and remembrance” “your judgments of old” which means “your, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinance, process, procedure and litigation”, “of old” or “belonging to long duration, perpetuity and ancient time past”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist remembered the justice and ordinance belonging to Jehovah God from the ancient past.

The verse goes on to say, “and have comforted myself.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and have comforted” or “and have consoled, had compassion upon and been moved with pity toward” “myself” which means “the Psalmist's own self”. The Psalmist said he was moved with pity and compassion toward himself when he recalled the justice and ordinances of Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the procedures and ordinances of Jehovah God brought comfort to the Psalmist when he remembered them. God wants us to know and be reminded of His “word” every day of our lives. This is the benefit to studying God's Bible every day. As we learn about His love toward us, which was demonstrated through the death of His Son on the cross, we not only believe and trust in Him, but are also drawn to know and obey His principles in our lives. God's scriptures direct and guide us through His Holy Spirit, and as He reminds us of His word, we are comforted regardless of our circumstances or situations.

Next time the Psalmist says, “horror has taken hold upon me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
